Philadelphia Cheese Steak - Finding Meaty Bliss Outside of the City of Brotherly Love

The classic Philly Cheesesteak sandwich includes succulent roast beef shaved thin, served with grilled onions and slightly melted American cheese on a squishy soft hoagie bun.  Can this delight be recreated outside of Philadelphia, or is it destined to remain a local favorite?

Later today, I'll head over to grand opening of Eddie's Famous Cheesesteak and Grille in Merriman Valley.  I want to taste his Cheesesteak sandwich and "boardwalk" style, hand-cut fries.  I'll let you know if it lives up to the hype.  Til then, just stare longingly at the image above and imagine the smell of a delightful roast beef sandwich right up to the point it reaches your lips.  Yum!

  1. Actually, a true Philly cheesesteak is not composed of slices of roast beef, but beef that is sliced thinly and then cooked on the flattop (griddle).

I, too, was interested in seeing how Eddie's cheesesteak stacked up and went yesterday, just after they opened. I won't spoil what I found for your readers, but if they are curious, they can read about my thoughts on my blog.

BTW, it's nice to find another Akron food blogger ... we seem to be much fewer in number than the myriad living in Cleveland.
