Sequoia Grove = Big Taste

Nestled on 22 acres of the floor of the Napa Valley, in an area known as the "Rutherford Bench", is a relatively young winery, the Sequoia Grove Winery, established around 1980.  In just under 30 years, this family-owned and operated vineyard has been able to develop a Cabernet with a big taste, worthy of world recognition.   I recently shared a bottle of the 2006 Sequoia Grove Cabernet Sauvignon.

The deep crimson shade of liquid had a fine dark chocolate aroma, intermingled with blackberry and assorted spices.  A minute later, the wine reveals a hint of cedar and black pepper.

Upon tasting the rich, well-balanced beverage, the cinnamon becomes more pronounced than it was when in the glass.  The tannins are soft and create a smooth finish, combining the dark fruity taste with a hint of oak.  It pairs well with a little mango goat cheese and strawberries.
Delightfully complex and elegant, this is a fine wine to share on a special occasion.

Other Wine Notes:
Acidity:  3.75
Alcohol:  14.2%
Price:  $36.99 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL., though $34.00 is the posted retail price on their website.

"Wine offers a greater range for enjoyment and appreciation than possibly any other purely sensory thing which may be purchased."  Ernest Hemingway
